Good Riddance to the Old Year

Truck flattened by fallen tree

Most people I talked to, whether they were customers or co-workers, were glad to see the year 2000 end. One co-worker informed me that there had been five deaths in her family during 2000. Other people related stories of various illnesses and hardships during the past year.

On the national level, of course, there was the botched presidential election and plenty of weather disasters. In August, an incredibly severe thunderstorm destroyed hundreds of trees in Janesville. Heavy snows and bitter cold have been the rule in December for most of the Midwest and East. There’s plenty of room for improvement in 2001!
