Autumn Splendor 2001 / Page 1 of 22

October 17, 2001 — I finally got out to photograph some of the patriotic displays, fall colors and Halloween decorations.

My journey began on Milwaukee Street in Janesville, where a group of students painted some patriotic art on the windows of a downtown building.

As I was photographing the art work, an elderly nun, in a habit, passed by. “Are you legitimate?” she asked. I didn’t know what she meant, so I didn’t answer. Then she continued, “or are you part of the Taliban?” She paused a second to see my startled reaction. “With all that’s going on,” she continued, “you have to be careful, you know.” We both laughed, and then she went on her way.

The next two pictures were taken at the same location.
