2 a.m.

In the blistering heat of the night
I toss and turn
Struggling to get some sleep.
Sweat runs in rivers down my face,
Saturating my pillow.
My head is splitting apart
From the scorch under the blankets
And the noise of people on the streets
Screaming and shouting
Like frightened mosquitoes.
Suddenly a siren sounds.
A policeman jumps out of his car
And says in a harsh voice,
“Go home and go to bed!”
