The winter of 2001–2002 in Janesville may well go down in history as “The Winter That Almost Wasn’t” or perhaps “The Winter That Came Too Late.” Normally, we receive nearly 40 inches of snow during the winter; December, 2000 was our snowiest month ever with about 35 inches in a single month! But this year, snowfalls have been minimal, as seen from the chart below. And the temperatures have been exceptionally mild as well: averages for late January are 8° and 26°, but seasonal normals have been rare this year. However, we did receive a major snow and some bitter cold in early March.
