Rainiest Month Ever!

Posted Friday, August 31, 2007

August, 2007 went into the record books as the rainiest month ever in Janesville, Wisconsin (as is true with much of the surrounding area). These rainfall totals, measured at our house, are not the official totals for Janesviile, but having compared notes with other residents of the city, I believe these are more characteristic for the city than the official totals are. For example, on August 14, several people told me they received 1.75 inches (I got 2.01) while the local newspaper reported 0.6 inch.

The August 15 amount fell during the day; the August 19 amount fell between noon on the 18th and 8:13 a.m. on the 19th, when it was still raining.

The figure for August 20 was taken at 8:30 a.m. It was not raining then but had rained off-and-on throughout the last 24 hours.
