I had a “nasty” infection in my right ear; those were the doctor’s words. I had to take Augmentin and Prednisone. I had been sick since the 17th.
I saw the audiologist on Jan 26. The audiogram revealed hearing loss in the right ear, tapering from 1 kHz upward. The diagnosis was nerve damage; a tapering course of Prednisone was prescribed which is sometimes successful in reversing this: 60 mg for 4 days, then 40 mg for 4 days, then 20 mg for 4 days.

This little angel face just turned 1 today!
Happy Birthday Asha Renee!
(Posted by Joy Christine Jewell, with Joe and Elizabeth Petitt,

Asha had so very much fun at her party! All the
fishies, a meal out, and hopping from one favorite person to
another. :)
Hopefully I’ll figure out a way to invite more people next
year and not freak out myself as she’s so very much more
extroverted than I am!

Our neighbors and good friends, Kayla Cleasby and Terry (Trey) Moore have a son, Jayden, who is autistic and needed some special therapy. There wasn’t enough room for them to do it at their apartment, so they did his therapy at our house.
They held the therapy sessions in our living room beginning on March 2, 2017. They moved the sessions upstairs on March 29. The last day here was May 8; after that they moved his therapy to Kayla’s sister’s house.
Charlie ran one 5K and one 10K race this year; see write-up at https://www.kharlie.com/running/2017.
The cappuccino maker knob broke on March 23.
The drip maker carafe broke on March 25.
Received first moka pot and milk frother from Amazon. The moka pot requires a “semi fine” grind; I used part espresso and part regular grind, and that worked fine.
My espresso machine broke, so I got this
inexpensive moka pot and milk frother from Amazon. There
was a learning curve, but now I’m making great cappuccinos!

Received 20″ × 11″ nonstick electric griddle.
First used for pancakes on Thursday, May 25.
“Wendi M” cappuccino first made using Southern Butter Pecan creamer by International Delight®. Wendi wanted her own version, like the “Kharlie M” and she remarked, “Too bad we don’t have butter pecan flavoring.” She didn’t know that I had just bought our first bottle of this creamer!
Tried out the new Belgian waffle maker that came yesterday, so we had Belgian waffles (yum!) with bacon on the side, and Colombian coffee in the French press.

Christ is risen from the dead!
(Posted at 12:04 am)
I (Charlie) had to work at the grocery store on Easter Sunday, from 10 am to 2 pm. Normally one can pick up or drop a shift, but it wasn’t possible this time around. I posted my thoughts and observations on Facebook; read them at this post in Seasons & Holidays.
Wendi and I did have a lovely ham dinner at home at 8:15 pm: Coca-Cola Glazed Ham (Wendi found the recipe online), green bean casserole, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and butter, au gratin potatoes (box mix), King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls, fruit salad with whipped topping, and deviled eggs. Everything was so delicious that we both had second helpings of each item!
Wendi’s niece, Winter, was here several times to visit in late 2016 and early 2017.
Joe, Elizabeth, and Asha moved to River Falls, Wisconsin on Sunday, July 2. They shared the basement with Emily Schlotte, who is Elizabeth’s cousin and the daughter of Randy and Therese Schlotte, who lived upstairs.
On Monday, July 10, 2017, we tried to take in a chubby black-and-white cat named Sky, from Kayla Cleasby. It didn’t end well: Wendi turned out to be allergic to her!
Our 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan required some extensive repairs in July:
We both attended Wendi’s 35-year high school class reunion dinner in Beloit.
Wendi got results back from allergy tests, indicating that she is allergic to peanuts, sesame seed, shrimp, and tomatoes (but not wheat or soy).
Wendi saw orthotist Lisa Rubrich at Mercy Clinic East at 11 am. She got a new ankle/foot brace; this one is solid, with no hinge, and there is a Green Bay Packers logo on it.

Our furnace quit due to an intake blockage outside; the repairman pulled the PVC intake pipe away from the top of the furnace, allowing air to enter from inside the basement.
That afternoon, I set out with the van to run some errands, and just a few blocks from the house, the right front tire went flat! Carefully, slowly, I drove it home and parked it. A friend helped me get a new tire the next day.
