Major Repairs

The cable lift mechanism on our mobility van broke after the winter’s first ice storm, on December 16, 2022. We had to take it to A & J Mobility in McFarland, WI, to have it fixed, at a cost of $1,551.88 (completed April 12, 2023). We had a grant for caregiving, and that covered it, so we were reimbursed $960 from the grant (the rest of the grant went for other expenses).

The control on Wendi’s lift recliner quite working on April 23. It was under warranty, but it took months to get the right part so they could fix it. Then they had us contact the wrong people to do the job; these people weren’t the ones who inspected the chair and ordered the part! Finally the right people were contacted, and the chair was fixed on August 4. All that time, it had sat in our tiny living room with the leg rest extended, taking up much of the room.

Our oven quit working on May 26 (the burners were fine though). We had a warranty from Best Buy, so they were able to fix it at no charge on June 6.

Our Keurig single serve coffee maker died on July 16. I replaced it with a cheap Brentwood single serve unit on July 20; it came with both a pod holder (for K-Cups) and a filter so you can use your own coffee. It took some time to get the hang of the new machine; I had K-Cups explode in it a few times! But now I can work it just fine.
