More Health Concerns for Wendi

Posted Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 10:50 a.m.

Wendi saw Dr. Miller on March 9 with a sinus infection and possible ear infection. The antibiotic appeared to clear up the problem.

She saw Dr. Lanser (neurologist) on March 14 with numbness in the right thigh. He said to keep an eye on it, but he will do nothing at the present time.

She saw Dr. Lyon (Ear, Nose & Throat) on March 15. Her voice is still hoarse. The sore in her throat is unchanged. The doctor does’t know what it is, so he scheduled a biopsy for March 23. It will be performed under general anesthesia but as outpatient surgery. A microscopic attachment will be used to get a closer look at the sore.

Therapy for Wendi’s Elbow

Posted Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 12:15 a.m.

Wendi saw Dr. Pittenger, the orthopedic surgeon, on March 16. Her right elbow has been giving her pain since it buckled a couple of months ago while trying to push herself up from a chair. There was no damage to the ligaments or the ulnar nerve, the doctor said; only a pulled muscle. Occupational therapy was prescribed, which will take place over the next couple of weeks.

Throat Surgery Goes Well

Posted Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 12:59 p.m.

Wendi underwent throat surgery at the Riverview Clinic Surgery Center this morning. The operation, technically known as a micro direct laryngoscopy, went off without a problem. Dr. Lyon removed the sore that was just above the vocal cords; the tissue will be examined in the lab later. The doctor does not believe that it was cancerous, but likely the result of irritation in the throat from another source, possibly some of her medication or even sleep apnea. He also does not believe that the sore is the cause of Wendi’s hoarseness; the vocal problem may be caused by some irritation on the inside of one of the vocal cords.

Wendi arrived at the Surgery Center at 7:25 a.m. and was released at 10:50 a.m. Her throat is understandably sore from the surgery, but she is otherwise okay and recovering at home at this time.
